शिवः शक्त्या युक्तो यदि भवति शक्तः प्रभवितुं
न चेदेवं देवो न खलु कुशलः स्पन्दितुमपि ।
अतस्त्वामाराध्यां हरिहरविरिञ्चादिभिरपि
प्रणन्तुं स्तोतुं वा कथमकृतपुण्यः प्रभवति ॥१॥
"Shivah Shakthyaa Yuktho Yadi Bhavathi Shakthaha Prabhavithum
Na Chedevam Devo Na Khalu Kushalaha Sphandithumapi
Athasthvaamaaraadhyaam Hariharavirinchaadibhirapi
Prananthum Sthothum Vaa Kathamakruthapunyaha Prabhavathi!"
Meaning:
Shiva – God Himself or the tantric Shiva; Shaktya – Shakti; Yukto – conjoined: Yadi – if; Bhavati – becomes; Shaktah – capable of; Prabhavitum – manifest; Na – not; Ched – if; Evam – thus (i.e., if He is not united with Shakti); Na – not; Khalu – certainly not; Kushalah – able to; Spanditum – vibrate; Api – even; Atas – one (cannot); tvam – You (Shakti); Aradhyam – worship; Hari – Vishnu; Hara – Shiva (Puranic form of Shiva – not as God Himself); Virinchi – Brahma; Adi – and others; Api – etc / others; Pranantum – bow before You (Shakti); Stotum – pray (offer prayers); Katham – how; Akruta – without / not accomplished; Punya – merit or fortune; Prabhavati – able to.
Literal Meaning:
"Shiva becomes capable of creating the Universe, only when united with Shakti. Otherwise, He is incapable of even stirring without Shakti. How then can one who has not acquired merit either in this and/or previous births worship You (Shakti) or even praise You who is adored even by Vishnu, Shiva, Brahma and others."
Deeper Meaning:
Shiva exists as pure energy; as effulgence, and is the Brahman in the Prakasha rupa and Shakti is the Vimarsha rupa or the reflective form through which Shiva realises his power. It is like how we see our reflective image in a mirror and realise that the image seen in the mirror is the self. It is the concept of “I” the Prakasha rupa or the self and “this” which is the reflective image of the self, i.e., the Vimarsha rupa which is His Shakti – the power to create. Thus, Shakti is both the seed and the sprout that is created and She sustains the creation through Her “Maya” of illusion. Even though She manifests creation with the power of Shiva to create, She alone or Shiva alone cannot create. It is their union which is the power to create. Therefore, without Her blessings Shiva cannot be known. The 727th name in Sri Lalita Sahasranama describes Her as “Sivajnanapradayini”. Thus, for one to be able to pray to Her, one must have immensely good ‘punya’ (fortune), as even Vishnu (sustainer), Shiva (as Rudra the destroyer) and Brahma (creator) find it difficult to pray to Her. It is this united form of Shiva- Shakti (Shiva-Shaktya yukto) that we worship in the central Bindu in the Sri Chakra in the Sri Vidya puja. This sloka explains that Shiva without Shakti (His own energy) is incapable of even stirring while She (His power) creates when conjoined and She also sustains through Her ‘Maya’ or illusion. Thus, nothing can exist without the union of Shiva and Shakti, or a united Shiva – Shakti.
Mode of worship:
Yantra for sloka No.1 is to be made on a gold plate. Or, draw it on a gold sheet of paper. Sit facing East direction. Chant the above verse 1000 times daily for 12 days. Reciting atleast 11 times every day is good for all male and female devotees.
Beeja Mantra: Kleem
Archana: Chant Lalitha Sahasranama. Offer red hibiscus or any other red flower.
Offerings: Cooked rice, scrapings of coconut mixed with jaggery and ghee.
Beneficial Results: All prosperity, granting of cherished purposes and solution to intricate problems.
Literal results: The energy level, known as the feminine and masculine fields or the yin and yang factor, is balanced. It helps treat hormonal imbalance. Female devotees facing severe marital problems will be able to bring things in control / curb abusive tendencies in husband. There will be harmony between such a female devotee and in-laws. Regular recital of this sloka is also known to help women even in work areas, etc.
